Spottedfire came to a slow as she and Mallowpaw approuched the Pine Forest. "Well, this should be a good place to begin." She mewed, half to herself. She then turned around to face her apprentice, settling herself on the wet forest floor. "This is a the Pine Forest. There is plenty of prey around here, like frogs, lizards, and other things."

Mallowpaw looked around the Pine Forest happily, he had never been here before, nor out of camp. "Can you show me to catch a mouse?" he asked excitedly. His big blue eye's shimmered. He noticed something scurrying about, a frog. He laughed at it and it ran away. "What the..?".

Spottedfire twitched her whiskers. "Prey is easily startled. When hunting, you have to be completely silent or it will bolt." She mewed, watching the frog hop away. But as she did she spotted another out of the corner of her eye, a couple tail lengths away. She imediately dropped into a hunting crouch and pulled herself forward. Once close enough, she prepared and sprung into the air, landing on the frog, and killing with a quick bite to the neck. Glad she hadn't missed it in front of her apprentice, she picked it up in her jaws and turned to face Mallowpaw. "That's how you hunt. But you won't learn all that in one day, so we'll take it step by step."

Mallowpaw crouched his broad shoulders stuck up high, so did his butt. "Am I doing this right?" he asked. Then he heard something, something scurrying along. "What's that noise?" asked Mallowpaw in a whisper. His whiskers twitched as he looked around trying to find the noise. Then he smelt something bad. "Ugh, what is that smell?" asked Mallowpaw. "There are a lot of new things out side of the nursery" commented Mallowpaw looking around.

Spottedfire's blue eyes were full of amusement. "You have to keep your butt down, or you'll look like a duck!" She mewed to him. Lifting her muzzle to the air, the brown she-cat could scent many different things, but nothing unusual. But it's been a long time since my apprenticeship. "Things will seem odd and unusual at first, Mallowpaw, but as time passes it all becomes normal." She would know.

Mallowpaw laughed "A duck". He lowered his butt down more then turned to Spottedfire. "How's that?" he asked. He looked around the forest. "It is odd, but it seems like I've been here before, like. . . In a dream" he meowed confused.

Spottedfire nodded. "Yes, much better." She mewed. But at his next remark she too became confussed for a moment. "Well, a lot of kits dream of the forest. And most of the forest does look the same.." The she-cat knew she had. So why was Mallowpaw acting so strangely about it?

Mallowpaw got out the hunter's crouch. "Well now what will I learn?" he asked quickly changing the subject. He glanced up at the stars then back to Spottedfire. "It's getting late" he meowed. "Is that StarClan?" he asked wearily.

Still a bit uneasy, Spottedfire raised her head to the sky and smile. "Yes, somewhat. Do you see that thick of stars over there?" She pointed with her tail. "That is Silverpelt. Each star represents a StarClan member, watching over us." The thought made her feel warm, protected.

"Whoa..." gasped Mallowpaw looking over to Spottedfire. "Do you know any cat up there?" he asked still looking up amazed at Silverpelt. "How do they get in the sky? Can they fly?" he asked. Mallowpaw wondered if he knew any cat up there. He looked up again then turned away, his vision feeling foggy. "I. . I- I don't feel so good" he meowed. His huge blue eyes turned even bigger as he turned to Spottedfire. He looked down at the ground and fainted, lay there restless, not moving at all.

"Mallowpaw!" Spottedfire cried, and dashed to the tom, laying on the ground motionless. "Mallowpaw, Mallowpaw can you hear me?" Her mew was panicked, her blue eyes huge. She began licking his forehead in an attempt to awake her fallen apprentice. What had happened to him? He had been so excited and energetic only moments ago. Wondering, Spottedfire turned her head up to Silverpelt. Had StarClan had something to do with this? She shook her head. No. Why would they? But Mallowpaw had been acting quite strangely..

Mallowpaw shivered a bit, his eyes looked like a stormy sky. He looked up, very dizzy. He couldn't remember where he was or who was the cat next to him. He lay back down shivered a bit more, then remembered where he was. "S. . . S-. . Spottedfire?" he asked, his voice shaky. "I just had a message from. . . From StarClan,"

Spottedfire's eyes widened even farther in shock. "From.. StarClan?!" She repeated in wonder. Could it be true? Could this young tom, who had just received his rank of apprenticeship, have been given a message by StarClan themselves? The mere thought was heart-stopping. She glanced up a bit uneasily at the sky again with her blue eyes, then turned back to Mallowpaw. "We need to see your father as soon as we can. Can you walk, or do you need to recover?" Her mew was anxious and was trembling slightly.

"I. . I- I think I can walk" he meowed. He stood up with his strong front paws, and pushed up with his back paws. "Whew" he gasped, then he turned to Spottedfire. "Why? Don't you get message's from StarClan often?" he asked thinking it would be common. He started to leave the forest and staggered a little.

Spottedfire, still worried about his condition, pressed her flank to his for support. "Well, you see, usually only the leaders and medicine cats receive messages from StarClan. It's pretty unusual that a young apprentice would get one.. But, then again, the cats who made the journey the the sun-drown place were all warriors- and one apprentice." She shook her head and sighed. "I'm not sure what's going on, but whatever it was.. It means that StarClan have chosen you for a special reason."
